I have been using it for a year and should say it works pretty well for me

Blockada or adaway will block about half of all apps, you could also use lucky patcher to block your device hosts file, however it will only block the ads from and servers you have already got ads from, new ones my slip through… this will work best with root, if you have magisk as your root agent you can add the energised extension to block hosts file with regular updates for new ad servers as they appear…. However blocking your hosts file for the sake of ads can cause problems for some apps and your general online experience…. If you play any games or use any apps that make you watch ads to progress or access features then your gonna be pretty much screwed without the ads…. Also when browsing the web you won't be able to visit any sponsored links in the search results, and again this an cause problems as legitimate sources often use sponsored search results so your stuck with a load of not so legit and questionable results instead
