Despite Oscar buzz, audiences heavily steered away from Tim Burton's horror musical, Sweeney Todd. I, then again, was excited to see it due to all the buzz and nominations its been getting. Besides, there isn't a lot else on the market.
The first 20 minutes or so are hard to get by way of. Perhaps it was bizarre to see those actors belting out tunes or as a result of every time you overlook it was a musical, there's another track. But every time they started singing, it felt actually inappropriate and awkward. Around the time little Toby (performed by the cute Ed Sanders) will get on display for the primary time, you feel somewhat better because he's just so cute. This was additionally the primary musical quantity that wasn't so moody and dark. Not that I didn't respect the moody and the dark as a result of I did and if you see this movie, count on lots of that. It simply took a little bit of getting used to. You think of musicals as enjoyable extravagant numbers with dancing and dazzle and all that jazz, but this movie is far from that. The numbers aren't significantly catchy or enjoyable, but disturbing and twisted.
Try to read my other movie review https://www.zanestate.edu/wp-includes/list/i_could_love_you_if_you_d_let_me___movie_review_by_123movies_haus.html .
However, by the time Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter began singing and dancing about placing dead folks into meat pies, I was offered.
The remainder of the film is just as delightfully darkish and comical. It was an excellent story with several sudden turns that had me pondering "I should have seen this coming." It was nicely written and nicely filmed, with a unprecedented forged. You need to applaud the leads, Depp and Carter, for taking the cinematic risk they did. Both of them are on my listing of finest actors of all time and this film is among the reasons why. Another nice casting was the all the time nice, Alan Rickman, who seamlessly portrays the creepy, perverted Judge Turpin, that Depp's character is obsessive about killing. Fun fact for Harry Potter followers: his trustworthy sidekick Beadle in the movie was played by Timothy Spall, who is the Wormtail to Rickman's Snape in the Harry Potter franchise. Spall is one guy that I would like to see solid in a likeable position. He's a great actor, however he plays the same ratty little evil minion in each movie. But he was great together with everyone else. Even Sacha Baron Cohen, who I hate with a fiery ardour, was gratifying. And who knew Borat might sing?
The verdict: test it out. It certainly deserves all the thrill it's been getting. It has one thing for everybody, when you do not mind slightly throat slitting right here and there. Do you think it is mistaken that seeing it put me within the temper for a meat empanada? Whatever, it was delicious and at least there were no attorneys or clergymen in mine.
